Reiki – what is it?

I use various ways to support my clients through the challenges they face, Reiki is just one way and if you’d like to find out about the others just follow these links to EFT, Matrix Reimprinting, Reflexology.

So just what is Reiki? (pronounced Ray-kee)

Reiki is a holistic healing system using a universal energy source and originated in Japan.

Reiki practitioners are tuned into and trained in how to use this healing energy. We are a bit like a ‘drainpipe’ through which the healing energy flows into the recipient. Reiki practitioners are channels or facilitators of this energy force.

Reiki balances the energy in the body, renewing vitality and bringing about a powerful feeling of peace and relaxation through the laying on of hands.

Do I have to undress to receive Reiki?

No, you will receive your Reiki treatment fully clothed (it’s a good idea to wear loose, comfortable clothing). You will be made very comfortable on my couch, with blankets if you’d like, and I will place my hands gently on or just above, your body in a sequence of placements on your head and body starting on the front and finishing on the back of your body.

What will it feel like?

People have differing experiences when receiving Reiki. For instance some may feel a warm sensation; they may feel tingling in their body or a sensation of overwhelming peace. Some feel the heat from my hands and many ‘see’ waves of different colours whilst their eyes are closed. Some will feel nothing at all apart from a sense of deep relaxation and calm. Many of my clients fall asleep.

Can anyone receive Reiki?

Yes, Reiki is a very safe and gentle method of healing. It offers support in every situation and can be used alongside other treatments.

What’s going on while I’m receiving Reiki?

The Reiki energy will come through me and be received by you. Your body will absorb the Reiki at a pace that suits you. You don’t have to do anything whilst you are receiving Reiki, just relax and enjoy the peace!

The Reiki isn’t something that comes from me, it comes through me (remember the drainpipe?!) so it’s pure, beautiful Reiki energy that your body is receiving.

After several sessions of Reiki, it is usual to feel energised and positive.

After your treatment it’s advisable to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol

It is important to note that Reiki is not a cure all and cannot be claimed to cure disease or diagnose. It simply enables the body to come into a state of balance and allow the body’s natural inner healing process to be supported.

I love giving and receiving Reiki and I use it from myself on myself, as a universal energy, it replenishes my own, personal energy, and leaves me feeling wonderful!

I wonder have you ever fancied trying Reiki? Maybe you already have? I’d love to know!
